From the same author as Charlaine Harris comes this new Sookie Stackhouse novel, next in the series of Southern Vampire Mysteries; it can be considered a “stand-alone” book, but it does help if one has read the previous novels. (I’m not sure which book the library’s collection begins with, but all of the novels have the word “dead” in the title; I began with Dead to the World.)  In this book, the main character, Sookie, is still trying to recover emotionally from the explosion at the Giza Hotel and carry on with her life. Taking place in a little town called Bon Temps in Louisiana, this novel centers around a violent power struggle between werewolves in the Shreveport pack, as well as an attempted take-over of Louisiana’s vampiric hierarchy by the Vegas vampires. Sookie – a telepath – finds herself once again stuck in the middle of the supernatural community. This book takes us through the many twists and turns of her life – now, only if she could reunite with her weretiger boyfriend, Quinn, who she last saw in the hotel explosion…
